Firstly: General provisions
- The provisions of this document are considered a general framework that determines the rights and commitments of the two parties (students and the university), and it also expresses the mutual understanding between the two parties with regard to the rights of students guaranteed by the university’s regulations and the obligations that they must abide, in an attempt to eliminate the wrong view that considers the student a container of commitments and duties with no consideration to his/her rights to ensure a stable and successful university life.
- The university expects its students and all its employees to accept and respect the principles of this document, confirming that this document cannot be considered as an alternative law system to the existing systems, and in case the provisions of this document conflict with the regulations issued by the university or the state, the university or state system prevails.
- The aim of this document is to raise the awareness of students towards their academic and service rights provided by the university, in accordance with its capabilities, how to obtain these rights and the authorized units. It also aims to raise their awareness on their commitments towards the university. That is to ensure the university's keenness on the quality of academic work and the related matter of the student on one hand and the university professor and university units on the other hand, and how this relationship in terms of transparency and clarity should be like with the various parties of university work in its various fields.
- In identifying and interpreting the concepts, terms, and words of this document, the provisions and texts of the rules regulating the Student Rights Protection Unit shall be taken into consideration. The University Council has the right to interpret the texts and words contained in this regulation.
Secondly: the rights of the university student
The rights and obligations of the university student include the following:
A /: In the academic field:
- The right of the student to be provided with the suitable study environment to achieve assimilation and study with ease and comfort by providing all the educational capabilities available to achieve this goal.
- The student's right to obtain the scientific material and knowledge related to the university courses he/she studies, in accordance with the university rules and regulations that govern academic work.
- The student's right to obtain study plans in The College or Department and the majors available to him/her and to know the schedules before the semester/academic year starts, and registering him/her in the courses offered by the system and registration regulations, considering the order of priorities in registering the students according to fair regulations when meeting the desires of all students to register for a course is not possible.
- The student's right to drop any course or add another, or dropping the entire semester, in accordance with the system and registering in the university according to what is provided by the study system and registering at the university, in the specified period announced to the students.
- The student's right to have the university faculty members adhere to the lectures' dates and times, to fulfill the scientific and laboratory hours, and not to cancel lectures or change their times except in necessity cases and after announcing that, provided that alternative lectures are given to those that were canceled or were not taught and that is after coordination between the students and the concerned department.
- The student's right to inquire and appropriate scientific discussion with faculty members, without censoring or punishing them for doing so unless it exceeds public morals and decency whether during the lectures or the office hours assigned for meeting the students.
- The student's right to have the exam questions included in the course, its contents, and the issues raised or referred to during the lectures, and that the balanced and logical distribution of grades should be taken into consideration so that a fair assessment of student's abilities is achieved.
- The student's right to take all the course tests unless there is a legal impediment preventing them from taking these tests in accordance with the relevant regulations and instructions, provided that the student is notified of his/her dismiss from taking the test in advance.
- The student's right to know the typical answer to the questions of the semester exams whenever possible, and the distribution of grades on the basis of which the student's performance is evaluated before taking the final exam of the course.
- The student's right to request checking his/her answer in the final test, in accordance with the regulations and decisions taken by the university in regulating that mechanism.
- The student's right to know his results obtained in the tests he/she performed after completing their correction and approval.
B/ In the non-academic field
- The student's right to enjoy the aid and social care provided by the university, and to participate in the university activities in accordance with the university regulations and instructions regulating that.
- The student's right to receive adequate health care through treatment in the university's hospitals and health centers.
- The student's right to benefit from the services and facilities of the university (the book - the housing - central and branch libraries - stadiums - restaurants - car parks and others) in accordance with the university's rules and regulations.
- The student's right to receive the legally established financial inducements and rewards.
- The student's right to be nominated for training courses, programs, internal and external trips, and increase his/her participation in cultural activities, as well as participation in local community service activities and voluntary work.
- The student’s right to complain or grievance about any matter that affects his/her relationship with the faculty members, department, college or any of the university units. The submission of the complaint or grievance shall be in accordance with the rules regulating the Student Rights Protection Unit, and enabling the student to know the fate of his/her complaint by the responsible party.
Thirdly: The university student commitments
A / In the academic field:
- The student’s commitment to regularly study and fulfill all the academic requirements, in light of the rules and dates regulating the start and end of semester/academic year, transferring, registration, apology, drop and addition, in accordance with the provisions of the university regulations.
- The student’s commitment to respect the university’s faculty members, staff, workers, and other employees of companies contracting with the university, and other students inside the university, as well as the university's guests and visitors, and not to be harmed in any way.
- The student’s commitment to respect the rules and arrangements related to the conduct of lectures and their regularity and order, and not to be absent except with an acceptable excuse in accordance with the rules and regulations.
- The student’s commitment when preparing research and other study requirements by not cheating, or participating in cheating when preparing them in any way, or by attributing the work of others , or to resort to any illegal means to prepare such research, reports, papers, studies or other basic requirements of the course.
- The student's commitment to the instructions and regulations given by the official or the invigilator in the examination hall or labs, and not to disturb the calmness during the tests.
- The student must register his/her e-mail on the university's official website, and to make sure that it works properly, and he/she must also check his/her e-mail on a daily basis to follow up on any announcements.
- The student must pay the financial fines imposed on him/her by the university because of a violation that he/she committed or caused by him/her.
b/ In the non-academic field:
- The student’s commitment to the university’s rule, regulations, instructions and decisions taken to implement them, and not to circumvent or violate them or submit forged documents to obtain any right or advantage contrary to what is required by the relevant provisions.
- The student must carry the university card while he/she is at the university, and present it to the staff or faculty members when requested, and upon termination of any transaction inside the university.
- The student is committed not to damage or tamper with the university's properties, or to disrupt them from work or to participate in doing so, whether it is related to buildings or equipment.
- The student’s commitment to the instructions for arranging, organizing and using the university’s facilities and equipment for the purposes assigned to them, and the necessity of obtaining prior permission from the authorized units to use those facilities or equipment when they wish to use or benefit from them in a way other than what they were prepared for.
- The student's commitment to dress and behave appropriately to university and Islamic customs, and not to do any actions that violate Islamic or public morals within the university.
- The student's commitment to being calm and tranquil inside the university facilities, not smoking, and not provoking riots or illegal gathering.
