The Deanship of the Preparatory Year at the University was established upon the supreme approval based on the supreme directive no. (37409/B) dated 10th Ramadan 1432 H and based on the decision of the Higher Education Council No. 22/65/1432 at its sixty-fifth session held on 3/7/1432 H corresponding to 5/6/2011. The idea of launching the preparatory year program at Prince Sattam Bin Abdul Aziz University was to prepare high school students to engage in the university life so that they do not find difficulty to move from general education to university education. Thus, the preparatory year contributes to the smooth transition of students to university life. As a result, this reduces the percentage of students’ dropout rate during university studies since studying in the preparatory year program will help prepare students academically, psychologically and professionally and give them a chance to choose their suitable specialty. The preparatory year program aims to consolidate the principles of excellence, discipline, a sense of responsibility, to enhance leadership skills and self-confidence among students, which will have a significant impact in helping them get involved in the university community, and participate effectively in university activities. This will be reflected in improving the university's outcomes that meet the labor market.
